How to research with library databases

Research Tips for Library Databases

1. Use single words or short phrases. NEVER use questions or full sentences.

2. Put quotation marks around short phrases or multi word concepts.

3. Combine words and phrases with the word AND

Sample:

You want to know about  the Jesuit Missionary Matteo Ricci and his connection to cura personalis.

In the search box you would write: Matteo Rici AND "cura personalis" in the library database.

Print Books on the Jesuits

Print Book Research Tips

Look in books about your specific Jesuit but also about Jesuits in general.

Use the book's table of contents, found at the start of the book, to find the chapter(s) that will be most helpful to you.

If you're book has an index, use it. The index is a series of pages at the back of the book that organizes important people and concepts mentioned in the book with their corresponding page numbers. The index can help you pinpoint the information you need.
