The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th Edition by What is Common Knowledge:
Common Knowledge: Information that an average, educated person would know without having to look it up. It can vary depending on the expertise of people, so if you are in any doubt you can ask your librarian, your teacher, or include a citation.
Examples of Common Knowledge
1. There are 365 days in a year
2. The Earth revolves around the sun.
3. Abraham Lincoln was president during the U.S Civil War.
4. Washington D.C is the capital of the United States of America.
5. Water is made up of 2 hydrogen molecules and 1 oxygen molecule.
6. U.S Presidents serve 4 year terms.
